Site meeting
The site meeting is the essential regular meeting for the smooth running of the project. It allows for an assessment of the progress of the work and compliance with the contract, for deciding on the measures necessary to meet the overall completion deadline, etc. Modifications, adjustments, schedule changes—everything must be recorded because the minutes have legal standing.
It is usually weekly, but may be more frequent depending on the work and methods of execution.
Managing deadlines
The deadline is one of the essential clauses of the contract between the client and the contractor. Failure to meet the deadline will result in the application of the penalties stipulated in the contract.
The difference between the contractual and actual completion dates automatically triggers late penalties. To avoid overly strict application of penalties, it is possible to extend the completion deadline either by decision of the project manager or by the client, for various reasons (substitution of different works than those stipulated in the contract, unforeseen difficulties during construction, etc.), or due to inclement weather that has caused a work stoppage.
Quality control of the work
The common practice in quality assurance is to refer to "best practices." This concept is vague because it is not codified. To obtain a more precise definition of these practices, it is preferable to make certain standards and rules mandatory in contract documents.
Quality management is inseparable from site visits, both regular and unannounced, during which the conformity of the work is checked with respect to the contract documents and by reference to the plans and specifications.
